History & Notes: Dancing Virginia was actually not recorded in a professional studio. All the above mentioned songs were recorded on a Tascam 238 cassette 8-track recorder in sound engineer Henry Dorn's living room. The version of Smiling Down that was recorded at Henry's is an earlier demo featuring a slower tempo. Lamplight, Matchbox Whistler, and Smiling Down were later rerecorded in a professional studio, and the versions listed above are unreleased. The version of Dancing Virginia was kept "as is," and made it onto the album. Trivia note: the "hidden track" after Opium was recorded binaurally in Henry's kitchen. This means that if you listen to it with headphones, it has a 360 degree effect that sounds like you're sitting in the middle of the table surrounded by the entire conversation.
